In a verbal and non-verbal
conversationtalking and listening are coeval
but practically, listening, born out of silence, exerts
more personal intensity, though
it may not be the most exciting part, despite
bearing a larger share of
responsibility
but is essential, for without a skilled listener,
the conversation
is just a monologue.
To know the truth, is not enough. It requires
from the two protagonists-one to speak, the other
to listen with constant vigilance-
mouth shut, ears attuned to almost sixth sense,
in the right order. to grasp on every level
at once, for meaningful exchange. The listener agrees
only with the legitimacy of dispatcher's
point of view, conscious hidden are multiple truths
that could lead
to a larger truth. The listener reaches out into
that unknown other selves, learning complex
human behaviour, while the confessor, sensing
that he has been heard, feels accepted, uncovers
part of his true selves.
