Diamonds

The noisome aspects of life, the maintenance tasks,
The need to obtain nutrition, are far from my mind as
I survey the valley. The sky is huge. It's robin's egg
Blue, and the sun is fierce, though not overly warm. It's
Burnished the normally homely river, wrapping its dun-
Colored waters in diamonds, and, I, an admirer, not
Quite a suitor, sit silently savoring its transformation:
Sort of a Cinderella, I guess. No prince, no bearer
Of gifts or slippers, I drink, aware that what I've
Pushed away, those aspects of life that I'd hoped to
Ignore, are near, and coming to ruin my reverie.
I'll hold them off for so long as I can, as I gaze at this
Lady who's borrowed such finery, and at the sun
And the robin's-egg sky.
