Pursuit of a Purposeful Existence
To what end should this day be put?, I ask, now that it's
Mostly over. I did go to work, so there is, or, next week,
There will be, evidence that I did something in which
Someone saw some worth, but now? I ought to mow
The lawn, but rain has made the ground too soft. I
Should remove the cover from the pool, the weather's
Getting warmer, but I need some help with that, and my
Son's not around. I have some things I ought to read,
But they're concerned with politics, a subject which
Their authors want to say should not be labeled hopeless.
Given that the country's been delivered to vindictive
Fascists, I'm convinced it should. Oh, look; the rain has
Come again. My guess is that the only end to which
I will devote this day will be the writing of a poem,
And that's just been done.
