Otherwise, I Never Would Have Known
They are tedious, these tenure-track essays which tell us,
In detail, what we all know. Guess what? It seems clear
That the planet is warming. Perhaps you're an ostrich,
And you haven't noticed that most of the features
Of standard republics are being dismantled, that outright
Fascism's come into vogue. Fat guys in suits from
The wealthiest countries keep sucking up minerals dug up
By children to process and sell off for millions, no, billions,
And those very fat guys, friends of the fascists, grow
Richer as their sundry servants grow poor. Can you pay
For a doctor or rent your own home? You can't, of course.
You should look for the reasons in tenure-track essays,
Which tell you, in detail, what everyone already knows.
