Three churches in our small community have been “terrorized” off and on for months by a group of men from a church preaching the domination of men and attacking anyone they deem unworthy. My response.

The Easy Decision

As I climb the steps
to enter the church
he tells me
where I am going -
cast into outer darkness
if I enter the door
leading into a sanctuary
of love and affirmation.

All are welcomed
just as they are -
children of the Creator: All.
My choice is easy -
to spend an eternity in “darkness”
with the ones who show acceptance and preach peace
or spend one minute
with those who point fingers and slur insults.

My peace is unshaken.
The man says God will judge me.
Wonder if he thinks himself
so worthy that he will stand beside Him,
chiming in with his two cents -
the proverbial tattle-tell,
polishing the apple, hoping to be favored -
not understanding -
God loves us all.

What a frightening scenario you've written. These angry, judgmental men are emboldened by leadership from the top? Men with power, who know how to abuse power? That is what I read in your words. A lack of human kindness and tolerance and respect and scruples and faith . . .
