The ones who design them should be made to live in them.


The Vertical Street

They replaced the terraced slums
And won awards for the architect:
The modern towers with walls of cardboard,
The new homes of neglect.
No social workers' leaflets
Were written afterwards to reflect
On the dismals contained in these once-thought wonders,
And how its blunders left lives wrecked.
