If

If dreams were real and wishes deeds a poem for you I'd pen
My quill dipped in the ink of memories
If thoughts were acts and efforts true and there was no pretend
A soul contented ever would I be

If love were gold and tears were diamonds falling from my eyes
My coffers would be brimming to their swell
If I were young and you were here to see the tears I cry
Perhaps my dear in truth it's just as well

If memories did not exist there would be no yesterday
No imprint left of all we ever knew
No reason for our tear ducts or the price we had to pay
There would be no memories of love once true.
Brendan.
