just stand there

If I could make one request it would be to just have you in the same room
For one minute
I just want one sideways glance at you
Gaze navigating around the shoulders of strangers to find an expression so familiar
I couldn't forget it if I tried, and I haven't yet
If I could make one last, simple request of you
The most innocuous task that would take only one small moment of your very busy day
It would be to just have you in the same room
And have you just stand there
Swirling a drink slowly and ashing your cigarette with the most perfect poise
With that slight smirk dancing across your lips and that look, that stare, bright blues brought out blazing
Gazing at me over the rim of your glasses
Hair cascading in golden perfection over your temples
Framing that face, that familiar expression, that face
Looking just past me
Like, right over my left shoulder at something fascinating on the wall
I'll only steal the time between two blinks, I promise
I just want to see you
Just standing there
Just once more
