Change

We were so close...
Everything that used to happen
You’d be the first to know,
You were always there.

Anytime I needed help
To lift me up every time I fell,
Running fast you came
To help me get up from there.

Now something went wrong
We can’t even talk.
You never seem to understand
What the problem going on is.

You’re different from others
I don’t know what makes you this way.
It’s difficult to talk to you
When you’ve got a mentality of your own.

And I try too hard
Too make this change
But in your presence I can’t stay
I feel this pressure that doesn’t let me be myself.

With you in my life
Everything seems to be a blur
Everything seems to be going wrong.
It will never be the same.

I’m breaking down slowly.
Please leave me alone
I don’t want to be part of you any longer
All I want is a mother like I had before.

that last line makes the whole poem so very moving. I want to read it again. The context is changed as the one to whom this is written is revealed. Well done! kathy

This takes the reader along thinking one way then turns sharply at the end, causing the reader to gasp. A powerful poem. Sad and tragic, it affects the reader by kindling empathy. Impressive work.
