The Bus Ride

they stepped into each other's world for a moment
he asked if the seat was taken
she asked him where he was from
she was young
and attractive
he was older
and cheeky
but not stupid
although
he wished
for that moment
that he could be
dance the dance
take the risk
he felt the energy
she did too
but they didn't speak much
was there a point
he was shy
and two hours
on a bus
to start what?
then he asked her
a simple question
near the end of the trip
and from that safety
the words spilled
effortlessly
they stepped off the bus
both smiling
her sister was picking her up
he was waiting for a shuttle
they didn't catch names
maybe if they'd started earlier?
he wandered off
giving her little glances
catching her little glances
and with his last look
her ride arrived
and she went to say goodbye
though not catching his eye
then letting it go
as did he
this shared moment
of fantasy

I believe now I was there watching this take place. Your words have opened the door into your mind and allowed me to view this very engrossing scene.

Ships that pass in the night, would it have been better to have stopped or sometimes the not knowing is delicious. Loved the runaway style in which it was written.

I absolutely love this! Its an everyday fantasy, that leads to the endless "what ifs" (: Charlie.
