it helps

it's hard to deny
the shadows that creep
this time, like every other,
the sensation is more familiar
it helps the acceptance along
to be transformed
into simple observation
from lessons that come
as they do
daily
it helps me to recognise
that it's not
all in my mind
it's a condition
that has a pattern
like those that make
the sound of an ocean
this is not a notion
it's just that plain old feeling
that has haunted me
for many of my days
it helps to know all this
but it doesn't
just instantly remove
the nailing pain of depression

I agree with uncle Bob!
Lovely read, you don't have to be happy all the time, especially if being down spawns excellent poetry such as this.

Kathy Lockhart
sometimes depression can be our muse. Your poetry reaches the soul.

I find these lines peculiarly appealing (part of it is the unexpected couplet I think):

it's a condition
that has a pattern
like those that make
the sound of an ocean
this is not a notion

Knowing the waves are approaching and the ripples will dissipate
is understanding, seems you have that understanding.
