The Kiss

you think it tastes
like nothing before
soft and warm
in its wetness
you mistake it
as new
unconscious of
the amniotic bath from birth
your lips
on your mothers breast
a sensation
that deep somewhere
a memory takes you
in this feeling so pure

it's been conditioned away
as a kiss becomes a hug becomes love
as sex becomes a commodity
like it can be owned
instead of a birthright
but you don't remember this
when you taste
your first kiss
you feel the mouth of another
the wonder
the bliss
the kiss
it seems natural
and it is
it's as natural as
honey
what is not natural
is the thought
the poison
the things you've been told
that might wait
till you're old
to leave you
so they can take you
to the simple truth
of instinct
human's wish to survive
not from a sin
but from something that begins
with a kiss

Ah, that's my first sentiment: Ahhh. Mm, that's good. Real. Imminent. I think you've done an honest job at capturing the worry someone might conjure up when caring enough about the person they'll kiss for the first time. Truly behind the belly button poetry.
Smooches, Eli
