Chamber of Commerce Dinner
We've had our salads. The steaks will come soon,Then the drinks, then the speeches we know word
For word. We'll applaud, anyway, when old Fred,
Or old Charlie proclaims that the government,
Run, as always, by Marxists and thieves, is
Destroying the nation, ruining business. Rules,
God damn it, eat into our profits. We must
Remove them. They're passing the hat. We can
Pay to replace those who torment us most. It's
A decent investment: ten thousand now for the
Millions we'll get later on. And, if we're defeated?
Well, things aren't that bad. We all say that
We're angry, but nobody frowns. If the rules
Remain, if markets stay weak, we can lay off
More workers and lower their pay. Profits
Will hold up. Here are the steaks. I think
Everything's going to be fine.
