It is easier to forgive than to carry the anger.

A Thief in the Night

A young man came to our house today;
no one was there, so he forced his way
into our home and took some things;
I suppose for the money he thought they would bring.
But before he left, two policemen came
and the incident turned into a deadly game.
He was arrested and driven away
to the prison cell where he would stay,
and though he had come in the morning light,
I knew he was yet a 'thief in the night'
letting the devil lead him astray;
then I vowed in my heart this very day
that if a prisoner he was to be,
he would first see the love of God in me.
So before he began serving his time,
I looked in his eyes and forgave his crime;
because regardless of what he has done to me,
He needs the grace of God to set him free.
