Tragic Starlets

Little Em'ly, Copperfields' tragic starlet,
Betrothed to Ham, the artless fool,
Innocence stolen, ripped apart,
By Little Trots' schoolday idol.

Steerforth, guardian and protector,
Once earnest, steadfast confidant,
Turned defiler, debauched ravager,
Twenty times richer, ne'er to want.

Kemp, Larkins' alter ego'd,
Awkward, sometime imbecile,
Showed his hand to be denied,
Fair, angelic Gillian, not Jill.

Warner, Kemps forced roommate,
Ever wanting accepted equal,
Feelings, admiration, love or hate,
Classes miles apart ne'er equal.

Common theme of innocence betrayed,
Richer by wealth but not by heart,
Em'ly, Pegottys' unworldly obligate,
Kemp, the imbecile, sycophant and puppet.

I'm with you on this, and Larkin is my man, but I do not know Kemp or Jill. What have I missed?

Barkis is willing.
