A Brief History of the United States Since 1945

The sign which said, Potemkin Village long ago was taken down,
And, in its place, in recent years, someone put up a cardboard
Sheet, scrawled on it simply, Hell. With our Commie rivals
Gone, the labor unions disappear. Our wages fall. Our “freedom
Of expression” is compressed to this: the corporate propaganda
News, and taps on every phone. The blacks, so equalized and all,
Are now in jail, and we're allowed to say we hate them, as we did.
Our slaves arrive from Mexico. We vote, but never get a choice.
The candidates are pairs of stooges, all alike, and all intent on
Bringing money to the rich, who pat their heads and shake their
Hands, and say, “You've got the job.” The colleges won't take
Our kids. The ladder up to affluence is missing rungs that we
Can reach. We are what we are forced to be...forever, in this
Little village Capital constructed to convince the world
Communism was the greater hell.
