Almost a Promise
Other than his wedding vow, which wasA fairly special case, your due date looming
As you stood beside him in your tented dress,
He's always kept his word to you, and, thus,
If he has said he's gone for good, you should
Believe he is. He told you he would break
Your heart. He has. He said he couldn't
Be a father to your little boy. He never was,
And, now, he's in the suburbs somewhere,
Seeing someone else. I may not do exactly
As I say I'll do, conviction being not so
Strong in me as it has been in him, but I
Will try to heal your heart, and I like
Playing with your son. If you will have
Me, I intend to stay.
