2011-8

To be a woman is to know the world is always
greedy,
starving,
voracious.

To be a woman is to be the fruit,
the ripe flesh,
the sticky pulp, or-

the husk,
the rind,
the stem,
the peel,
the skin.

To be a woman is to be willingly
swallowed,
consumed,
devoured, or-
risk being tossed,
thrown out,
castoff,
discarded,
worthless.
