Written on a Napkin for a Woman Named Ellen
I realize that tongues will wag.I'm strong enough to handle that,
And, should our love disintegrate,
I'll land upright, just like a cat,
And I've no faith in greeting cards
Which say romance goes on and on.
I've found too many goodbye notes
Announcing that a love has gone,
But, should what is not be what was,
And bliss remain our habitat,
I know, as with those wagging tongues,
I'm strong enough to handle that.
