I remember you

I had loved,
once upon a time it seems,
in some place very far from here,
in another life maybe.

My past seems so distant now,
memories no longer assailing me,
memories of broken promises and love.

But I do remember you,
the feeling that lingers,
the smile on my lips when I hear your voice,
the catch in my voice betraying my happiness,
from just a word you whisper.

I had once made you my world,
thinking that you were the sole reason I existed.
You had once allowed me,
before killing everything between us.

I do believe that ours was a meeting of souls.
No matter how far I may be,
or how many years come to pass,
I believe my soul will always recognise you.

You always blamed me for dreaming impossible things.
Impossible they were, for you.
But never for me.
I had the passion to fulfill the dreams I saw for us.
Alas, you had no faith in love.

Something remains though,
something that you refused to give a name to.
Something that I still feel and I believe, I will always feel for you,
even if nobody ever talks about it anymore.
I believe I will always love you.
