One Light Remains On
It's not so bad to be the last to sleep,To watch the lights go out in houses
In the village on the river's other side.
It's not so bad to have the darkness
Cushioning the world's blows, to
Have no more to hear than thoughts,
The ticking of computer keys composing
What you read. It's best to take a break
From being someone else for someone
Else. In solitude is liberation. Soon
Enough, I, too, will sleep, but, first,
I say, beneath the moon, it isn't bad
At all to be alone.
