A Splash of Insight
I've envisioned myself as I actually am:A meaningless creature, at present,
Attached to a toilet, reading a book review.
Destiny's stayed, but my sense of significance,
Squeezed out, drops and is carried away.
I'll rise in time, and curse what I read,
And the wide-screen world, which bellows
Nearby, its pushed-about leaders, its
Villains and victims, its slow-witted
Narrators, telling the rest of us, seated
As I, that there must be significance;
Else, why their lives?, will persist to
The end of a species of which I have
Ceased to be proud, to the end of its
World, and of meanings, expressed,
And observed bobbing by.
