The Past Has Passed. Good Riddance

Jesus, Angie, what was once was once.
It will not be again, and we are not
Who we once were, to be, like figures
In a movie, always doing what we did.
Look at yourself. You're old. I'm older.
Flab, fatigue, have slowed our steps,
And lives of routine desperation
Floated us, as rusted freighters, out
Onto uncharted seas. The ports we
Knew, the playgrounds and the bars,
The beds, are closed and gone.
I kissed you once because I loved
You, left you when I didn't. Now
You're nearby and you seem nostalgic.
Know we're not the ones we were,
And wished, at one time, not to be,
And know, for all its faults, the
Present is the only home we have.
What was once isn't worth a look
By those who aren't the ones who
Used to see.
