Pick a Spot on the Planet

Cruel? I suppose we are. The pendulum
Has swung our way, and we are on it,
Cheering, as it crashes into you.
Despised before for how we talked,
And how we looked, and what we wore,
We turned away, as you do now, to seek
A place to gather strength, and, sensing
Weakness, we stopped here. You'll
Never be so good as we, as we'll
Remind you, even as we fear you,
Knowing what we've done. We'll
Smile as we watch you struggle, pleased,
At last, to be above, and, should you
Cry out that we're cruel, I'll reply
Without regret that I believe we are.
