Mediation
The thing is never what it is.It's what somebody says it is.
We never see it, anyway. We
See an image, lines on glass,
Alleged to be the thing that's
Seen. The critic tells us what
We see, and we, before we go
To sleep, believe. We're given
Peace of mind. And what it
Is we've said we've seen has
Been obscured, and locked
Away for specialists to come
And see. We'll have to make
Do with its image, which we'll
Say it is.
