Is There a Law of Intended Consequences?
I've made mistakes in sixty years,Some gems. I wouldn't argue that.
I've driven drunk and smashed up
Cars. I've nearly drowned in
Undertows. I've gotten close to
Guys with guns and drugs, and
Too much use for me. I thought
That I had learned from them,
But now I wonder. Yesterday,
I got together with some friends
To drink and watch a playoff game.
Among these friends was Wanda
Jean, a woman who's not young
Or pretty, but she has a hold on
Me. I see her and I want her love.
Well, not her love. I want her body.
When we went outside to smoke,
The liquor hit, and all I said was,
“Want to go to bed with me?”
She smiled, and answered, “Yes,
I do.” We left just then, and
Headed for the airport and a
Cheap motel, and, in it, we went
Straight to bed. We had our fun
And fell asleep, and I just took
Her to her car. She grabbed
Her purse and kissed my cheek,
And told me she would see me
Monday. Driving home, I ask
Myself, was this my latest great
Mistake? Though it's early, I'm
Inclined to say that it was not.
