I Said That I'd Try
I shall try to write a most beautiful poemTo bring spring into being, and to coax
A love from you for me commensurate
To mine for you. I shall push away all
Of my darker thoughts, and note the air
Grows thicker now. It bears the scent
Of something growing, yet unseen, as
Your eyes dance, but don't reveal exactly
What I want from you, and my words,
Too, obscure what I am thinking as we
Have our cake and coffee on your finally-
Sunny patio. “The clock is ticking. Tell
The truth,” I tell myself. You are my love,
And you should know. I don't show up
Each afternoon because I sense it's
Feeding time. I do not struggle to be
Bright to prove that I have been to school.
I simply hope you want me here, you'll
Have me back, and spring, and love,
At once, will bloom. As for the poem,
This is it. It's sturdy, I think, but I
Must concede, not beautiful.
