Pretty fish! I watch you swim, yourRainbow scales a-flash, the sun reflecting
From them as you dart and turn, and
As I lumber on, the whale who drags
Its weights and nets, and sinks; it seems,
Forever sinking. I can't dart and turn
With you. I can't rise to share your sun.
I watch and wish, but wishes, weighted,
Sink. I see, from far below, that what
I wanted, pretty fish, won't be what
I can have.
