Can't Cuddle Now

Darkness must descend on even the most
Buoyant hearts. I love you. I have told
You that, and this love, or yours in return,
Has filled me with a brightness more
Intense than any I have known. It will
Again, but cannot now. The gloom's
Produced by my TV. I see those endlessly
Abused succumb to rage and roam
The streets. A pizza place is set alight,
A couple cop cars nearby burning,
Soldiers dressed in riot gear, and tear
Gas, screaming, all because, again,
A pale-faced man has been allowed
To murder one who's black. The act
Means nothing. Blacks are scary,
Each best suited only to be buried
Or put in a cage. Either way, they
Never know the tranquil pleasures
Of our lives. They rage and eat
Themselves inside. They live in darkness.
Knowing this, my life's stopped
Being bright.
