Edward Hopper's Realm
Eventually, there's aftermath, and this is it,A man wrung out and staring through the
Window of his rented room. The romance,
Partner poorly chosen, never reached the
Speed it needed to escape its earthly
Shackles. She remains inert at home,
Her mother cooing, "it's okay," each time
The world gives the girl, really, that is all
She is, a headache, sneezes, anything,
And this man, who shall be our hero,
Rumpled, doughy, not too far removed
From Edward Hopper's realm, was foolish.
He's aware of that. The years are running
Out on him. The wife's a harpy. All the
Kids have grown and gone, and there she
Was, almost a kid, someone to save, and
Someone who might put her arms around
His head, and tell him he still comes to
Something...but she didn't. She ran back
To Mom, instead, and he is here, alone and
Thinking, maybe he has come to naught.
The sun goes down. He draws the curtains:
Day in aftermath.
