Goodbye
I'd thought that we would go somewhere, atSome point, as new lovers do, and talk,
And that, with time at last, the heat, which
I could feel between us, eagerness to
Speak and be together, would inflame the
Planet, sear our ties to all around, and,
Thereby, leave us pure, alone, absorbed
Completely by our love, but we went
Nowhere, never talked, and what
Encircled us remained, and tugged,
I guess. We've grown apart. We
Haven't much to say these days. We
Won't be going anyplace, and I no
Longer care for you. Somebody else
Will come, I hope, and speak, and lead
Me where you wouldn't. She may
Tend the flame and sear a circle
Setting us apart, and you, now
There, outside of it, will be no more
To me than one of those I used
To love.
