Giorgio De Chirico
As if something has happened,The shadows lengthen across
The corn and soybean fields.
Somewhere, a dog is standing
Guard, and barking. Elsewhere,
A man has hung his head and
Can't escape his grief. The
Planet spins indifferently.
The sun goes down. The
Shadows merge, and darkness
Overtakes the barking dog,
Also the grieving man, and
Our own consciousness decays.
We close our eyes and go to
Sleep, and dream, each jump-cut
Image loosely based on what
We'd thought we'd seen. Something
May have happened. We're not
Certain what it was.
