Leaving the Suburbs

Reason's shit. I reasoned that with
My suburban white boy's brain. You
Grow up there almost Voltaire, so sold
On causes and effects, so certain
All can be explained, and you'll trace
Causes without passion until you
See reason's shit, but I was unprepared
For this. How can I love someone I
Only see for minutes every week,
Someone who dares not care for me?
I know no cause, no explanation.
Thus, I slide to lower ground: the land
Of faith and superstition. Explanations
Are not found. What is is what must be,
And love's a force which issues from
Some place your Voltaire cannot reach.
I love her just because I do. I'd die if
That would make her happy. How I
Feel seems without reason, but we've
Learned that reason's shit.
