Dreams

As my life approaches its cluttered end
I ponder upon my myriad dreams
Some easily realized have lost their luster
Diminished in their achieving

Others grander still unachieved glow
With a brilliance that lights tomorrow
While their spent cousins
Act merely as my history's waypoints

May you be favoured with many dreams
some easily achieved but of lesser value
Others of grander vision a life's work
Forever lighting your tomorrow's

This one is so good Joe. I am so glad it has been chosen by the editors. It not only speaks of a life of accomplishments and their value, but it also gives hope to the reader in the last stanza. I would have loved to have received this message in my 21st birthday card instead of platitudes and a pointless plastic key. Extremely well done.

This is shrewd observation, Joe. Our accomplishments may give us a sense of satisfaction, even confidence, but they can't motivate us. What can are, as you say, the things we intend to accomplish.

There's a quote that seems to have been written just for you -

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
― H. Jackson Brown Jr., P.S. I Love You

I know you intend to do exactly that.

When I dream - I know I am dreaming
Like having me own DVD playing in my
Mind
Should I not like what my mind is playing
I go to the off button
A wait - another DVD - dream - works for me!

Thank you, thank you for your eloquent reminder. When we stop dreaming is when we die . Look at the people in nursing homes when they realise there is nothing more to dream. You can see it in their faces and they light up when someone is willing to listen to the dreams they accomplished. But, it's much worse when a person still able to dream, stops. It is death.
Thank you for sharing these thoughts with us.
