Unexpected Visitor (extended)

You've come! I never thought you would.
Come in, and try to overlook the dishes
Piled by the sink, the paper spread out
On the table, crumbs, the laundry on
The floor, your lovestruck host's
Disheveled state. I would have cleaned.
I didn't know, and now you're here,
And I no longer see the mess that I
Have made. Please, have a seat.
Take that one there. Just push aside
The pizza box, and tell me you
Don't plan to leave. I'm so glad
That you've come.

Do not clean up! That's not your
Job. It isn't why I've asked you
Here. If this clutter makes you
Nervous or it fills you with
Disgust, I'll find a place for us
To go that's neater. I could buy
You lunch, and I could lead you
By that lovely hand into the
Arboretum, past the palms and
To a bench. The sunlight of this
Fine fall day can warm us as
We sit and talk. What thrills
Me is that you are near me,
Not that we are here.
