I wrote this a long time ago.  I wanted to post it for Lawrence, who might appreciate the sentiments.

It's a good companion to Picass0, as well.

Bereft

“I want to be your oasis,”
Those were your words to me,

“Not strand you in a desert.”
But stranded you’ve left me,

Your brief visits like droplets
Of water when I’m dying of thirst;

I await each drop in anguish,

Cherish each drop,

With its promise of life,
As I once cherished
The hours spent with you;

Forgetting for a moment
You’ve left me
Bereft.
