I REMEMBER

I remember the fight like it was yesterday
So many things about that day
I remember going out on patrol
I remember pointing my weapon at every hole
I remember the bang, than the screams
Screams til this day haunt my dreams
So many wounded on the ground
Bullets coming from everywhere
I remember that day all too well
Felt like I was in the middle of hell
After the fight ended I was afraid to move
All I heard was "Are you okay?"
I lifted my head to look and see
I saw help that came to me
I remember a day, I try hard to forget
Some of my buddies wept
I still ask how I survived
Thinking I shouldn't be alive
I remember those we lost that day
We should continue to honor them in some way.
Brothers and sisters in arms who continue to fight each and every day
