Night Again
She's been the sun, no less than that,A brilliant light, too far away to touch,
But near enough to warm. She drove
The darkness from my life. I felt
Content with her nearby, her smile
And her almost-desperate chatter
Signs she needed me. It seemed as
If my love for her had been what
Made her choose to shine, her glow
Perhaps not love in turn, perhaps
No more than gratitude. The
Difference didn't bother me. I
Simply had to have her here,
But now the day has gone to dusk.
My sun no longer is in sight.
The darkness closes in, and I, who'd
Just survived before she came,
Do less than that.
