Like Fools for Love, I Am a Fool for God

Like fools for love, I am a fool for God;
like a whirling dervish, I'd dance for Him;
and count myself a bug in blesséd sod,
sustained from head to toe by Him, life and limb.

Some are fools for power, and some for greed;
but I'm quite foolish for His Holy Bread,
a clown and jester for His Word, indeed,
an honored guest at His court who's richly fed.

None are so unwise so as to be poor;
but I'm like a fool, broken for His sake,
and what I need (worldly pleasures no more!)
can heal and mend—for life's but much heartache.

I once was a fool for knowledge and desire:
now, I just lust for His holy Baptism's fire!
