My First Lesson in Anti-Semitism

Oh! I remember the look
On Father Christmas's face,
When I told him,
Aged 3,
That actually
I was Jewish.
It was Christmas, 1956,
On the children's ward
Of Hammersmith Hospital.
He had just
Presented me
With a beautiful, blonde
Goddess of a doll,
But I felt
That I had
Misled him
And so blurted out
My faith!

He deftly switched
The 2-foot doll
With a 6-inch pygmy!
My first lesson
In anti-semitism
And white supremacy!

Esti, on the day, in that week, how could I have missed this gem of yours?
The fact that I did makes me feel that I have let you down, for I know that poetry like this looks so easy to pen but is in fact a complicated and arduous process. (Often with the poem itself being just the tip of the iceberg!) Anyway, enough of that, let me say that for me this is, like I said, a gem, and I think PoetBay is the poorer for there not being more of your work featured.
Blessings and love, Allen

Esti.... How dare someone who purported to be,
Father Christmas treat a child of three
In this way! And an ill one at that.
Unfortunately the real father Christmas,
Wouldn't even treat his elves like that.
Here's hoping he was fired from the guild of
father Christmases and didn't receive any
Presents that year being on the naughty list.
Thanks for sharing, regards Alan

Sometimes it manifests as well intentioned but also all the worse for that. Thanks Esti, a good poem.

That is a very young age, indeed, for a first encounter. I managed to get by pretty well until I was nine.

Rude awakenings!
