It's possible that people who've grown rich supplying
Fossil fuels will come to reason, and they'll stop. It's
Possible their customers will choose to alter how
They live, but neither outcome seems too likely, so
The planet is doomed to warm.

It's possible that those who profit from supplying
Weaponry to those who subjugate the helpless will
Experience some shame, as will the ones who use
Those weapons to maintain their privileges,
But chances are the weapons will keep being made
And being used, and all the little wars all over will,
At last, combine...

And that might be a helpful outcome for this
Overheating planet. Humans won't stop burning
Fuels, but, if they continue fighting, finally going
Nuclear, they'll extinguish our foul species, leaving
Other creatures to enjoy the peace of Chernobyl.
