It is my sincere hope that one day America will come out of the darkness we are in and rebuild in such a way to make things better, to truly make the whole life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness thing reality for all instead of the few.
Lady Liberty has snuffed her torch.
We wait in darkness now,
hoping that with the dawn
of each new day
a miracle will manifest,
restore Her light,
shine as a beacon
to the world.
Bundled up for warmth,
battered and broken hearts
head to the streets,
recording history,
becoming history.
They stand with courage,
choosing to bear witness,
blowing their whistles -
a warning to the vulnerable.
We will not forget.
There are the record keepers,
those who stand up
through their writing,
wielding the weapon
of words, strong and true,
to point to truth,
to call for action,
to demand justice.
We will not forget.
With laptop in hand
and armed with a phone,
many work behind the scenes,
building connections,
establishing networks,
finding supporters
to build the infrastructure
for new beginnings.
We will not forget.
We, the people, had the power,
the power of the vote,
the right to choose leaders
dedicated to the fight
for equality and justice for all.
The forces of greed,
the perversion of Christianity,
and the power of oligarchs
sowed distrust and division,
primed us for apathy or anger,
and then they struck.
We will not forget.
When Spring comes -
and it will come again -
it will not arrive gently.
Like bulbs pushing through
frozen ground to bloom again,
we are waiting.
Her torch will be lit again,
not by one hand,
but by the many,
and Her light,
shining brightly once more,
will remember
who put it out.
Oh, we will not forget.

When Spring Comes
Winter has come to America.Lady Liberty has snuffed her torch.
We wait in darkness now,
