between two

get to know

her likes and dislikes

habits

propensities, 'clivities

hope

we align

a lifetime is a long time

to spend

with someone

i can't sate

needs something

i can't give

there's a brief window

there's a door

This has a quiet, uncertain tension that works. The list of things to learn about someone, likes, habits, propensities, feels like the nervous inventory of early intimacy. The door image at the end gives it a fragile, almost ominous openness. But the poem is so fragmentary that it stays just out of reach. The middle lines about needs and what can't be given are the emotional center, yet they're barely touched. A little more of that fear, or a concrete detail about the "brief window," would give the piece more grip. Still, the mood is effective.

Some things become less important over time. As you say, a lifetime is a long time.
