Rosie

Rosie was just a little girl.
Her mother's little angel,
and her father's sweetest rose.
She was just an ordinary girl
living in a pleasant little town.

Rosie was just a little girl
when her mother died,
leaving her and her sisters behind.
She had to raise her sisters,
while her father slowly slipped away.
He became more and more drunk,
after drowning his sorrows at the local pub.

Rosie was just little girl,
and then she had to grow up.
Taking care of her sisters,
but most of all her father.
She faced problems head on,
and tried to avoid any fights.
She did her job,
she lived through every day.
She learned the hard way
the difficulties of life.

Her friends were playing in the schoolyard,
but where was little Rosie?
Rosie was at home,
cleaning up her father's mess.
All her childhood memories were slipping away,
and replaced with lessons of life.
She cried herself to sleep every night,
when everyone was asleep.
Everyone except her father,
who got drunk at the nearest pub.

Her father finally got his wish,
he got to see his wife again after one too many drinks.
Rosie was then left all alone
with her little sisters.
Still she got through it,
took one day at a time.
She never expected much,
she never wished for anything.
She just lived.

Her sisters grew up,
and left their nest to start a family of their own.
The house was empty and cold,
she was then all alone.
She had no one to take care of.
She had nothing left to do.
Her job was done.

She began wondering where her childhood had gone.
Where was that little girl so carefree and happy?
All the people who she loved were gone.
She was not her mother's little angel anymore.
Her father's sweetest rose,
turned out to have thorns and cause people pain.
Where had the time gone?
