P

I'm looking at this photograph
Of you and I back then
Thinking of all the times we shared
And all the places we've been
I saw you every fall and spring
Although it was very quick
I never even thought about
You ever getting sick
They diagnosed your illness
But we thought you'd be okay
But all the doctors and nurses
Has another thing to say
You started up the chemo
You were tired all the time
But after a few months
Your health started to climb
You seemed a lot better
And we thought it went away
But then all of a sudden
It just came back one day
You got extremely ill
And every night I cried
Then on October 28th
I read that you had died
I was a wreck for days
I didn't know what to do
Whether I was at school or at home
I always thought of you
As I look at this picture
Of you and I together
I know our memories will never leave
I will always love you forever

Welcome to PoetBay, sarahashley.
I find this a beautiful, haunting piece. My gran (not Granny) died of lung cancer, and a much-loved guinea pig of a tumour, so there are many feelings that I recognise here.
Applause!
