The Key

The light shines on your face
as you tell me to no longer chase
after the life we once had
you were tired of being so sad
We had a whole year of fun
but you said you were finally done
all the laughs we had finally ceased
while the fights had steeply increased
I had no idea what to do
but the last thin I wanted was for us to be through
I finally raised my head
and spoke the words that I've left unsaid
You mean the world and more to me
I have my heart but you have the key
I want to be with you forever more
even if we grow old and dirt poor
As I gazed into
those beautiful blue eyes
not a moment sooner
he started to cry
He apologized to me fast
because he agreed he could not last
the only girl he could see was me
holding his heart's rustic brass key
