An Open Letter To All

It doesn't matter to me how long you've been alive,
but what you've done with the moments that turned into years,
have you dared to dream of impossibilities
and long for your hearts fulfilment?

It doesn't interest me which 'God' you worship,
but have you touched the centre of your darkness
or danced with your sorrow long into the night,
cried for hours only to walk out the door with a smile?

It doesn't make a difference when or where you were born,
have you sat with pain and more so that of others
or wandered wilderness without an aim,
not seeking, yet still finding and growing all the time?

It doesn't need to be known who exactly you are,
but what you let yourself be made of;
do you have the strength and courage to accept betrayal
yet not betray your heart or soul for the sake of others?

It doesn't suit to never be alone,
can you sit with loneliness and enjoy the company,
or see the beauty in cold, damp days
and face disappointment yet refuse to give up?

It doesn't change the truth if you tell lies,
can you be cautious and dabble in mystery
yet not lose sight of realism and remember
where you came from, no matter how high you fly?

It doesn't stop death if you live a good life,
but can you carry your load and a beggar's just to ease
his pain a while and not expect payment,
or dine with kings yet still prefer to sleep amongst slaves?

It doesn't count to always be right,
can you be honest with yourself,
lead by example and be the change you want to see,
and know when to fight but also when to stop?

It doesn't matter what you forget to leave behind,
but more what you gave in every present moment
and the chain reaction you carried forward, it matters more
that you loved, and can leave with your head held high.

There is uncommon poetry and wisdom in every stanza, especially for one so young. I can only imagine what you might write in the future given the sensibility and perspective you already have.
