Loving Poison

It's so late, too late
the rest of the world is asleep and I cannot bear to keep my eyes open any longer

you mention her name

Wrestled out of any sleep
another issue to work through
another fight to solve nothing

I attack you with full force

Knowingly using your every weakness to my advantage I know where this leads,
I can't do else

Playing on your guilt, asking every question you cannot bear to hear
I watch your face fall
you disappear into yourself
your body growing cold
shivering
like you cannot bear reality any longer
your misery imploding

I can't do else
you won't answer me!
won't tell me what I need to know

I push you beyond your words and all that is left of you is this weak man
who wont ever fight back
whom I can despise
shivering man

whom I love

and I put my arms around you
take it all back
bring you back to me

But even then
you are not mine

This is a powerful and disturbing piece, my friend.
The title is compelling and very fitting indeed. And the poem as a whole is very intriguing to read, as I have no experience of this sort of relationship. I like particularly your use of italics, suggesting an urgent whisper. And I was gripped all the way down, needing to read through to the end despite the pain I felt for both 'I' and 'you'. Good song choice too.
Applause!
