the walls speak

the walls speak, and the floorboards creak
dusty shelves contain dusty books long since read
the walls speak, what do they say?
they are trying to convey their wisdom
to creaking floorboards

creaking floorboards never a promise break
for the sake of all its age,
the bars of the cage are broken -
the little bird is let out

what do you sing of, little bird?
what is the word that you have for us?
alas, she has flown too far above to be heard!
the mind, oh the limits of the mind!

the walls speak, listen to their wisdom
the floorboards creak, tread not upon them
let your spirit soar free!
only creaking floorboards bother to listen to speaking walls
