ITS ALL ABOUT SURVIVING! (ww1- story-poem) (changes-addishans)

As ordered - went over the top - at night - a quarter moon - above us
The Germans - were waiting - we had not gone far - when they let loose
Hell
Cut us down - as usual - our dead piled up - as usual - some survived - as usual
Those not dead or wounded - found we were being slowly - surrounded - we stood
No chance - as usual - we decided to make our way back to our lines - as usual
We walked - stumble - on - over - our dead and our wounded - mates
Fritz - shot down those of us they could see - on our belles - so we hit the ground and began crawleing - like snakes - grass snakes - back home - we slithered

Over our dead and wounded - sound of their pains - agony's - dieing breaths - filed our ears - air of last breaths - kissed our lips - the kiss of death - we were right close - looked in to their Eyes - still - worm flesh
Took us hours - Germans - around us - we lay still - some not still enough - the Germans - handy with the bayonet - so finished our lads there and then
Mind we'd do the same!
So those of us still alive - silently lay - with - on top of our dead - dieing - mates
When we could - the coast were clear - we'd - get back to our crawling
Those of us still alive - relatively - unscathed - reached our lines - fell back in to our Trenches - survived - fore another go - the next time!

Surviving - is the game of war!

Kathy Lockhart
When you write these, it is how you write them: the style, every detailed choice, make a point--drives home a difference in the intensity of the situation you are describing. The picture gets more defined, becoming clearer and clearer. I don't need a film of it. I see everything so vividly. I am overcome for each soldier, each man, each mother's son. How personal it becomes. My senses are all engaged so I hear, see, feel, smell, and taste war.
Your style of writing works, Ken. This is what Novelist do.
